Bastrop is a must see while staying with us at The Hobo Camp. The first two pictures are of downtown Bastrop, corner of Main and Pine Streets circa 1914 and the present. The City of Bastrop is among the oldest towns in Texas! Settled in 1804. Incorporated in 1837.
Tour Bastrop, Texas through photos by Neil R. Gurwitz.
Many travelers pass through the city of Bastrop, especially along Highway 71, seeing only the new business strip and not knowing about some of the other treasures of Bastrop. The old historic Bastrop lies only blocks away from the highway. Many historical homes and buildings unfold scenes of times gone by, along with many other scenic areas of beauty. Some of these include the River Walk along the Colorado River, a State Park of "Lost Pines," three 18-hole golf courses, Lake Bastrop, and many other attractions.
Even more important than it's histroy, Bastrop has become the financial and business center of Bastrop County. Rapid growth has occurred along the Highway 71 Corridor to Austin. With the establishment of the Austin Bergstrom International Airport within 20 minutes of Bastrop, the town is a wonderful blend of the new and the old. |
